Results from numerous employee engagement poll on average indicate that only 13% of employees worldwide are engaged at work; 63% are not engaged and 24% are actively disengaged. Top engagement levels in Canada and the USA is approximately 29% that are engaged with their work.

In 1970, award-winning author Studs Terkel wrote a best-selling book called Working. He interviewed one hundred people across America whose work ranges from executives to labourers. The majority of people he interviewed were neither satisfied or engaged with their work.

Now, as then, local, national and international studies indicate that many people are not engaged, satisfied or fulfilled with their work. For example, the results of a US Society of Human Management study concluded that over 80% of executives are currently look for a new job, while 78% of employees are engaged in a search.
